I am an artist with a passion for feltmaking that originates from my love of sheep. Living in the New Forest my work reflects my desire to connect with nature and the importance of sustainability.
I have been spinning weaving and dyeing my own fleeces for over thirty years. Having graduated in Agriculture I set up and ran my own company, producing yarn and knitting kits from my own flock of several hundred Rare Breeds of sheep. Feltmaking was a progression after having to disperse the flock when my father sold his smallholding. I now have over twenty years of experience in teaching feltmaking from school children, adults with learning difficulties to community projects.
I currently run my own textile business teaching, exhibiting in the UK and internationally and selling my work though galleries and online.
I am a member of the International Feltmakers Association and also licentiate member of the Society of Designer Craftsman.
The work I produce is not only functional but has colour, texture and tactile qualities. Using both traditional and innovative techniques I aim to show the diversity and qualities feltmaking can be taken to and push the boundaries with my work.
My work is usually in relief and very often three-dimensional. I am a very ‘hands on’ person and love the tactile feel of felting. Each piece I produce is unique and I love the fact it can never be replicated. Felt making is a passion, my life and in my soul.
